Psychology Resources for the Writer

26 06 2008

Whether a novel, short story or just an idea is rattling around waiting to unfold, psychology for the fiction writer can take the reader to depths within your story that bland, dry and barely accurate writing never will. Whether your writing involves delving into the mind of a psychopath, a severely depressed heroine or a manipulative, egocentric protagonist, getting your facts straight can make the difference between unstoppable readership and unpublishable manuscripts. Take the time to educate yourself and then write a story that grabs your readers and doesn’t let them go til it’s ready to.

PMC and eyes – New Videos

16 06 2008

Not much going on this rainy Monday but I did add a few more videos, How-To’s on drawing eyes (digital) and 3 new video tutorials for those of you who are interested in learning how to create a pendant using Precious Metal Clay (PMC).

Now, I have to cut someone’s hair … enjoy your day and hopefully the weather is better where you are!

When the weather strikes – Ouch!

15 06 2008

I’ve been extremely neglectful haven’t I. Unfortunately a few physical annoyances, shall we say, are often times a more reliable weather predictor than the best Meteorologists in my case. That isn’t to say I’m slacking off, it just means I’m falling behind and may not get to things as quickly right now as I really wish I could. I don’t always feel as though I’ve just been run down by a cement truck carrying a full load, so once the odd weather moves out and the allergies calm down, I’ll be right back to my normal, average mid-range ‘pain stick’ self in no time.

Now that school is out for my teens (yaay!), I no longer have to interrupt myself to jaunt off and drop children off, pick children up or taxi them to and fro (at least not as frequently), so where I may be short on productivity overall at the moment, I’m pretty confident that won’t continue for too very long.

While you will no doubt find my ‘place’ boring at the moment (and who can blame you!), there is one place you just might want to check out while you are thinking about purchasing your next great product. I joined a site late last year called Shared Reviews, a terrific community of like minded individuals who have a passion for handing out praise and yes, even warnings, about products they’ve purchased and used or tried. There are opportunities to join, make your own voice heard and even earn a little bit of extra money for oh I don’t know…your latest hobby supplies perhaps? I hope you’ll check Shared Reviews out, I belong to the community and although I sat on the fence from Oct 10 ‘07 til just the end of May? It’s been a place I’ve been stomping around for the last few days while I wait for my knee, neck, head and back to get their acts together so I can get back to doing some design work.

Hope the weather in your end of the world is treating you well and if you live in areas such as Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wisconsin, NC or the California areas or anywhere there is weird and even dangerous weather conditions right now…be safe!

Some Updated Videos

6 06 2008

I spent a bit of time over at Vodpod yesterday, was time to refresh the Videos that are to the right of your screen. I found more great ‘how-to’ videos for both jewelry making and Drawing/Painting. While there, I had a Flash Back…remember good old Bob Ross the ‘happy little trees’ painter whose series of Painting tutorials were on the PBS stations for some time? While I lived in another city for awhile and ended up confined thanks to a knee operation, this program was one of several I just had to watch frequently… available here now to allow you your very own ‘blast from the past’ is a mountain scene segment to view and follow along with if you care to.

Art Jewelry Magazine offers up a 5 part series on how to work with Cabochons and create your own settings for them. Very detailed and easy to follow the step by step instructions.

Along with a 3D Studio Max/Fushion Tutorial for making a gorgeous mountain sunset scene for Matte Painting, I also found a pretty nifty way to increase your painting mediums to another easy to obtain relatively inexpensive one…Mascara! Check out Bette Davis Eyes, done completely with nothing more than a mascara wand. I really love this one because it’s an ‘outside the box’ way of bringing a new slant to an old skill.

I’ll be hunting for new Videos again soon. Enjoy what’s available for now. Thanks for checking them out.

Rain, Thunder and laziness oh my!

1 06 2008

Well, this weekend has been a bummer! Although there is no excuse for it, I’ve been far lazier the past few days than I really should have been. Unproductive is probably the best way to describe me right now.

I have all kinds of things to occupy my time yet the rainy weather has not only dampened the ground, it’s dampened my enthusiasm. The Kings Chain bracelet I’ve put together for my oldest daughter is all but finished yet I am still having some trouble securing the Swarovski beads I purchased specifically for this project.

I will do my best to finish this today, after all she’s getting a little impatient with me and I can’t say I don’t share that feeling because actually I do. I am anxious to see what the design will look like completed and then I can actually get a picture of it up here to prove that indeed, I have produced it!

Several ideas in mind should be coming together in the next week or so hopefully, I think visitors will find some of them of interest. One in particular should get your mojo running especially for those of you who just have to have your bead and finding fix on a regular basis but first I need to hear back from someone to ensure that what I want to implement will be acceptable to them and be in keeping with the high caliber business they run here on the Net.

I did pick up a few Blog related books from the Library yesterday. Once I’ve perused them perhaps there will be a little more substance and a lot less ‘huh?’ here. As the Terminator made famous ‘I’ll be bawk’
