Love to Crochet? Why not expand to wire crochet jewelry?

I love the level of “unique” that some people take their creativity to.  While surfing today I ran across a gorgeous pendant (brooch?), I can’t really tell by the image but suspect it would be gorgeous either way – this very unique, delicate and beautiful piece is a Sea Horse, just scroll a short way down the page (right side of the screen) – and it was this piece that really piqued my interest.

One of the artists I found who works to crochet wire into gorgeous items is Johanne Brunet and she offers several tutorials based on her skills which can be purchased for relatively little money.  She also generously provides a couple of tutorials free of charge (for personal use only) that helps you design a very delicate finger ring and a nice pair of earrings.  This led me to investigate this particular technique a little further and as I use to be an avid crocheter – it more than interested me where jewelery design is concerned as I could see it melting in nicely with all of my other jewelry related interests.

Wire crocheting is relatively easy to pick up whether or not you have ever held a crochet hook and yarn or wire.  One of the tutorials I located that offers a great grouping of images to assist you in getting started if you’ve never crocheted before is located at Craftstylish.com and offered by Cheridowd.  The project offers you a way to create earrings very easily and quickly – you may surprise yourself with just how well  this project will come together for you.

Another option for those of you not into crochet, is knitting!  Stitchdiva.com offers a few tutorials for both adding beads to wire crochet work and getting started with knitting wire.  Although not extensive, the images are great and the steps quick to do.  Another option is to combine both knitting needs and crochet hook to obtain the result known as “Hairpin” crochet – the site offers up a quick tutorial for this  which incorporates beads as well.

I’ll be investigating this particular technique for applications in jewelry making a little more – for now I’ll leave you with these sources and perhaps you’ll discover a whole new way to enjoy jewelry making.

Hi there. Love the tips in your post!! I am also interesting in learning how you added your videos to the sidebar. I see the “code” for it but I thought I couldn’t use widgets built with “scripts” at wordpress.com. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi don_mae2 – thanks for your kind words, appreciate your comments. As for adding Vodpod to your own blog @wordpress.com – here’s a link that I think will help you accomplish that. As you should already have the Vodpod widget accessible to you under your “Widgets” tab, setup should be relatively quick. Hope this helps. Good luck – and thanks for stopping by! Akaiya
