Some Excellent Tips for Writers

I don’t want to be a ‘link’ blog but the other day while doing some research, I happened across a site that I found extremely helpful for writers.  The site, Precise Edit lays out an excellent article on “10 Overused Words In Writing”.  It’s an informative, concisely written piece that will benefit any writer.

The website is filled with great articles, information and sound advice.  Take a look,  I’n certain you’ll find it a very useful resource.

Make It Happen – Thinking Positively Does Work!

I’ve been absent from here although that hasn’t been my intent.  Life has gotten in the way and has bestowed upon me a number of blessings – a few of which I wasn’t even expecting!

A little while ago I wrote about thinking positive and about an “experiment” I was about to embark on to see just what positive thinking can actually do in ones life.

Well, consider this a brief update:

–  My husband now gets a gas allowance from his business, something he wasn’t taking before.  This comes in very handy as our gas budget was ballooning out of control and was one thing I’d been worrying about (thinking negatively).  Once I began to believe that we’d find a way to keep gas in the beast which is the truck, this took place;

–  Lean Manufacturing, it’s something many Companies are doing to try and improve profits while reducing extraneous workloads that aren’t necessary or removing steps that don’t really add any value.  Although implementation in a Powder Coating facility is difficult and challenging once successful, my husband’s income will jump up by over $10,000!!  That is to take place for Feb of 2009;

–  I had been pondering getting into some “demand” writing when a job literally fell into my lap!  My first assignment was a brief writeup, my second was challenging but interesting and once I’d completed it, boy did it feel great!  The feedback was extremely positive and my entry into the “demand” writing world has begun – and all I did was think about it in a positive manner and things just naturally  led to it;

–  Our hydro woes?  Well it seems as though, just as I thought, the meter attached to our home is one that has a faulty circuit board and is recording our homes usage in double time!  Apparently there is a known issue with certain Smart Meters.  Now, just to get it replaced and have the billing properly corrected and all will be great in this area as well;

–  Went to the casino the other evening,  For the last while all I’ve done is donate but this time around I decided to use my positive attitude and thinking and I claimed to the family before I left that I was going to double the amount I was taking with me.  Did I?  Actually no,  – I tripled it!  On my way in to the casino, there was a sign announcing some of the upcoming events.  One event was dedicating an evening to a group of people – it just so happened to be the group of people I had written about in my article!  I took that as a sign that indeed the “law of attraction” was working very hard in my life.  That little ‘sign’ gave me an additional boost to my positive thinking that night;

–  I’d been working on a budget, ick yes, I know … and of course I was worried…then I decided that perhaps I should just remain on the positive thought kick and just get the budget done!  It turned out that we were able to make the budget work great and now I have even more reasons to smile;

– Both my youngest daughter and second oldest son studied like crazy and after my little talk about thinking positive, they both aced their Driver’s tests and gained their license;

– A friend of another daughter received the ‘think positive’ speech from me just this morning.  She was in a woest me funk and worried that she’d not get a job anywhere.   She’d sent resumes all over the place and not a single call or email from any of them.   I told her to think with a positive manner that she was going to get an interview and was going to get a job.  She decided to try it.  She contacted a Company at around 11 this morning and they called her back a few hours later.  She has an interview tomorrow and a strong opportunity for employment.

So, if you are in a position right now where things aren’t going quite as you would like?  Change the way you are thinking.  Don’t think that something negative will happen, or that something won’t likely come about that you would like, for whatever reason.  Just open it up, think positive about it, send it out to the Universe and believe!

I’ll update more  on the positive happenings that take place, as I go along.  I’ve gotten back to being the positive person I have always tried to be but forgot about for awhile.  Why would I ever walk away from this?

More to come later!

Have a great, positive thought, positive belief day!

Roadblocks – A Sign To Heed

We’ve all had one of those days (or several) when things just don’t want to fall into place.  As a creative individual, especially if you are in business for yourself, those kind of days are part and parcel of the real world.  A roadblock which stops you from achieving your goals or objective can manifest itself as many things – lost contracts, customer misunderstandings, ideas not panning out as expected etc., and can make for a bad day all the way around – if you let them.  Usually when one roadblock falls in front of us, depending upon how we perceive it and follow through with actions and efforts to remove it, we will either succeed and move ahead or  we’ll find that there are several more blocking our path in short order.

I tend to view roadblocks, those things stopping me, irritating me, frustrating me – as signs.  Road signs if you will that are telling me clearly that the direction I am trying to go or the methods I am trying to implement are actually either not worth my time and effort or they need  to be revised and dealt with differently.  Despite the clear signs sometimes however, I choose to ignore them and continue to forge ahead.  It isn’t until I’ve exhausted every attempt that I decide perhaps the roadblock is trying to tell me something and I’m just choosing not to listen.

A small start-up that I’ve consulted with on several occasions was having a grand time with roadblocks awhile back.  The owner was frustrated and disappointed that things he’d wanted to implement just didn’t want to go anywhere.  Every time he turned around there was another stumbling block in his way and these where beginning to affect his business negatively.  When he called me he was to the point of shutting the business down completely.  He’d had enough and in his opinion things weren’t going to get any better. Sometimes Spam is Good!

While checking my numerous email accounts a short while ago, I was going through the motions of clearing all that glorious spam that inundates us these days when one of the subjects caught my eye and forced me to check the header to see where it had originated from.

The email subject claimed 40% off products from a site called ‘wire-sculpture.com‘.  I’d never heard of this site and didn’t recognize the name of the sender.  As I usually travel past many, many sites in any given day there was the possibility that I’d simply forgotten ever being there.  So, clicking on the link provided in the email after ensuring it wasn’t bogus by doing a search on it first, the browser opened to reveal some pretty great little finds.

The site offers a variety of products for sale related to jewelry making, tools, gemstones, wires and much more.  I was hooked!  While exploring the site I realized there was a lot more to it than just that of a product seller.  Clicking on the left of the screen introduced me to a treasure trove of unique instructional videos.  All FREE!  Some of the items where so gorgeous I just had to take a look and when I did all I can say was ‘Boy, Preston, awesome work!’  The site isn’t fancy but the manner in which the information pertaining to the many products and particularly the generous reviews by happy clients, lends a welcoming ‘kick back and enjoy’ feel to it.  I was immediately right at home here and found the prices for products carried to be extremely reasonable – something that I always look at.  I want to be able to support sites like Preston Reuther’s. This gentleman appears to give a lot of himself to his business and his customers and I think it shows.

The ‘how-to’ videos that Preston Reuther generously offers for FREE on his site are not only unique but detailed.  Following along as he creates gorgeous items such as his “Pharoah’s Royal Egyption Gemstone Pendant” (30 minute video), or a beautiful “wire wrapped gemstone bangle bracelet” (27 minute video) or one of the several other instructional videos he offers will allow you to quickly discover that there is much more to this site than just the same old Jewelry findings, gemstones and wire wrap supplies.  Preston Reuther has invested a good deal of time into his passion by offering us these videos which are straight forward and easily conversational.  He invites you to follow along as he creates each unique piece and you get the distinct impression that you’ve just visited with a friend who not only knows the ins and outs of wire wrapping but enjoys sharing his knowledge with others.

What further impressed me about Preston Reuther’s generosity was the fact that the he doesn’t shy away from uniqueness.  I don’t know about you but when I visit a site and am offered a video on how to make something, I like to see uniqueness, beauty, interest and of course lots of info on the steps involved to allow me to duplicate it.  You certainly won’t be disappointed with any of the videos on Preston Reuther’s site!

Business Opportunity?

Thinking of getting into the wire wrapping business?  This site is also getting rave reviews from people just like you and me who have an interest in making this style of jewelry into a full fledged business and with the assistance of DVD’s and material from Preston Reuther, the opportunity to do so is completely possible.  The site offers a number of DVD’s to help you start your own business, learn the trade and much more.  Prices appear to be quite reasonable as well.

This was definitely one email that I’m very glad I didn’t just toss away.  Keep up the terrific work Preston!
